Picture it. You’re sitting in your bridal suite after having your hair styled for your wedding. There are tears streaming down your face because you went with the cheapest option. You neglected to do your research and now you’re dealing with the consequences. Your great aunt Rheba looks over and says, “this could’ve been avoided, ya know.” And she’s right. Here’s how to choose the right hair stylist for your wedding.
It’s hard to tell your stylist what you want for a hairstyle if you don’t even know. Head over to Pinterest for some inspiration. There are thousands of pictures and boards dedicated to wedding hair alone. Glean inspiration from others. You could also go “old school” and grab a bunch of wedding magazines. Cut out pictures and create a mood board if you can’t nail down one specific look. Asking your colorist for ideas could be helpful, too.
This is literally the most important step. Read reviews. Look at portfolios. Reach out to past brides that they have had. Ask your friends for recommendations. When searching for wedding stylists, use keywords such as:

Having a consultation with potential stylists is a great way to see if they will be a good fit for you or not. Many bridal hair stylists do not offer “trial runs” before having your date secured. Imagine booking your trial and before you even have your trial, someone else secures your wedding date before you do. It would be heart breaking. The purpose of a preview appointment, aka trial, is to try out the style, not the stylist.
Cheaper is not always better. Trust me on this one. But, you do still need to take your budget into consideration when looking for your bridal stylist. There are many factors that can vary the cost such as location, experience, and additional services. If your budget is more on the conservative side, try looking for stylists that are just starting out. They will be thrilled for the business. If your budget is a little more robust, you will be glad that you spent the money. After all, you spend half of your wedding day with your hair and makeup artists.

Finding the perfect hair stylist for your wedding can be hard. If you do your research, have some consultations, and take your budget into consideration, you’ll find them. You will save yourself so much heartache by booking a professional wedding hair stylist over trying to diy your wedding hair. You deserve to look back at your wedding photos and love how you look. Let’s get you on the right track by booking a consultation here. Not ready for that? Take a look at my portfolio instead.
